Beerakaya Pachadi is very common in my home . It is very simple and easy to make and tastes so good with rice.

Ingredients for making Beerakaya Pachadi:

Beerakaya( Ridge gourd / Chinese Okra ) 2

Green Chillies 6-8 (according to your taste)

Garlic Pods 3

Ginger 1″ piece

Urad and Chana Dal 1 -2 tbsp

Oil

Tamarind (according to your taste)

Salt

Making of Beerakaya Pachadi

First heat a pan and add 1 tbsp of oil and fry urad dal and chana dal till golden brown and remove it into a plate or blender.

In the same pan add more oil and fry green chillies,garlic and ginger. Fry till green chillies change their color. Make sure green chillies are chopped or slit ,otherwise when you fry them they will pop and might get into eyes.

Remove fried chillies into blender and add chopped beerakaya or chinese okra. If you peel them it is easy to fry.If skin is not peeled it will take long time to cook.

Cover the pan and allow cook beerakaya in low to medium flame.Don’t add any water,allow to cook it in its own juices. Add tamarind to it and cook it.

After it is cooled a bit, grind dal’s first and add green chillies,garlic and ginger and grind it. Now add cooled beerakaya and grind it. You can give tadka to this beerakaya pachadi at this point. I haven’t done this.

Serve it with hot rice and ghee. Enjoy.
