I have made these Jowar Idli or Jonna Idli using urad dal and Jowar flour. It is easy to make and is very healthy. I have also made Jowar idli using whole Jowar or Jonnalu in recent post.

Ingredients for making Jowar Idli  or Jonna Idli or Jola Idli or Cholam Idli

Urad Dal 1 cup
Jonna pindi/Sorghum flour/Jola or Cholam or Jowar Flour 2 Cups
(I used Jowar Flour 2 Cups. You can use regular Jowar or Jonnalu. You can use either 4 or 3 cups. )
Methi seeds 1 tsp
Salt
Baking Soda a pinch.

Making of Jowar Idli  or Jonna Idli or Jola Idli or Cholam Idli

Soak urad dal and methi seeds for couple of hours.

If you are using whole jowar or jonnalu soak them over night.Grind urad dal and grind jonnalu separately and mix them together.

I used jonna pindi or jowar flour so I mixed flour with urad dal batter.

Add salt and mix well.

Allow idli batter to ferment overnight.

Add soda and mix well in the morning.

Grease Idli plates and make Jonna Idli or Jowar Idli

Serve Jonna Idli  with your favorite chutney. I tried with peanut chutney and Onion Tomato Chutney.I like this jonna idli with Onion and Tomato Chutney.

These idli’s are fluffy like regular idli and are so soft. You can taste jowar in every bite . But you don’t get that regular sweetness taste from rice in regular idli. You can check basic idli recipe here.

You can try these jonna rote and learn how to make jonna rotte.

Try this Jowar Idli ,a healthy breakfast recipe and I’m sure you will love it . Enjoy!!!
