This is another recipe for those who don’t have time and energy for cooking. This I have learned from my Mom and Aunt. You can follow the same procedure for many veggies like Brinjal(Eggplant) and Tomato, Cabbage and Tomato, Dosakaya and many more. I can’t remember what I make at this instinct 😉

This beerakaya pappu will help any busy girls or ladies out there like me. It doesn’t matter if you work or take care of your family. I guess we all are busy ……

I thought I will write what Beerakaya is called in many other languages then ,well who cares it is out there written in many blogs or you can use google translator if you care 😉 My girl now a days says “Mom go online and find it amma”. Even little kids, they don’t want to waste time searching in books they want quick answers and want to search online or google. I wonder if they can remember anything. I don’t remember any phone numbers even my husband’s sometimes because I have phone all the time. If the battery dies then I struggle a lot to remember anything and even directions. Earlier I used to remember all phone numbers and everything now there is a lot of dependency and less use of memory..

Okay I will stop bragging and off to recipe….

Ingredients for One Pot Beerakaya Pappu Recipe:

Beerakaya (Ridge Guard) 2 Nos

Chana Dal 1 Cup (You can use Toor Dal too)

Onion Medium to big 1

Tomatoes 2 or 3

Green Chillies 5 to 8

Garlic pods 3 or 4

Cumin Seeds 1 tbsp

Coriander Powder 1 tbsp

Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp

Mustard Powder 1/2 tsp

For Tadka or Tampering:

Oil

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Urad dal 1 tsp

Chana Dal 1 tsp

Asofetida(Hing) a pinch or 1/2 tsp

Curry Leaves

Cilantro or Coriander Leaves

Salt

Making of One Pot Beerakaya Pappu:

Take a pressure cooker and add all ingredients except tadka ingredients. Cook for 2 to 3 whistles or till they are cooked properly.

I like to chop beerakaya in big pieces and mash them after they are cooked. You can chop smaller pieces and skip mashing them.Or you can stir fry them and cook, options are many.

Once beerakaya pappu is cooked you can mash them a little and give tadka.

For tadka heat a pan and add oil.

Once oil is hot add mustard seeds. After mustard seeds crakle add curry leaves add urad dal,chana dal and hing. Add cilantro and salt. Now add cooked beerakaya pappu and let it boil for few minutes.

The same Beerakaya Pappu can be made in many ways. Pressure cook dal and in tadka stir fry onions,garlic,chopped beerakaya and chopped tomatoes and add rest of dry ingredients and cook then till beerakaya is cooked.

Beerakaya pappu tastes good with hot rice and ghee accompanied with any spicy pickle.

You can clean and chop all the veggies and store them in a Ziploc bag in refrigerator few days ahead and when ever you need to cook beerakaya pappu, wash chana dal and drop the veggies from Ziploc and add dry ingredients and cook. Saves time 🙂

Note: Increase or decrease any of the ingredients according to your taste buds.
