Happy Sankranthi to all of you 🙂

 

I have waited for days to start blogging this year with a sweet recipe. Things didn’t work out in favor. If I had all things ready and start cooking my little one will be cranky or something would happen. At last today because of festival I made my Mom’s ravva laddu recipe. Ravva laddu is very easy to make and tastes delicious.Check my Mom’s Sunnundalu or urad dal ladoo.

We will have bonfire on Bhogi day early in the morning like 4 or 5 am when I was kid. Later as I grew up time changed from 4am to 6am and sometimes 7 am too.I had all fun when I lived in my village with my grandparents. I used to spend my pongal holidays with my grandparents. Those are golden days of celebrating this festival in my life. We used to have bonfire competition with friends. Whoever will wake up early and have a big bonfire wins 🙂

We eat nonvegeterina on Bhogi day. In my home it will be ildi with mutton or idli and chicken. Its sort of traditional 🙂 My grand father used to fire roast whole chicken in bonfire itself and later it will be our breakfast 🙂

Mom will clean home in the evening and on Sankranthi day its all vegetarian. We will offer pooja and new clothes to our ancestors/deceased family members.On Sankranthi my Mom will make payasam and vada. She will also make dal,sambar,two vegetable sides,appalam and sundal. This is for lunch and breakfast is sweet pongal.

Another competition among girls is muggulu/rangoli. My Mom is again a champ in drawing muggulu. I guess I have inherited her genes. Now I forgot how to draw muggulu/rongoli. My Mom is a wonder or super woman who can handle festival chaos with ease and I’m no way near to her. I can’t do all cleaning chores and cooking on the same day and look peaceful by end of day. I will be done after doing chores or cooking. While I was typing this blog post, my mind was in time machine and visited all those golden days.

Now moving on to ravva laddu recipe.

Ingredients for making Ravva Laddu Recipe:

Upma Ravva/Sooji 1 cup

Sugar 1 cup

Warm Milk 1/2 cup

Ghee 1/3 cup

Cashew/Almons/Raisins 3/4 cup

Cardamom 5-7

Dry coconut grated 1/4 cup

Procedure for making Ravva Laddu Recipe:

Fry ravva or sooji in a pan  using 3-4 tbsp of ghee on low to medium flame.You will smell nice aroma.

Take ravva into a bowl and keep it aside.

Now add a tbsp of ghee and fry chopped cashews and almonds in low flame. When they change color drop into ravva bowl.

Then fry raisins in a tbsp of ghee on low flame till raisins puff up and change to golden color.

Now fry dry coconut in ghee till they change their color into light brown.

Blend cardamom and sugar into fine powder.

Combine ravva,nuts,coconut,raisins and sugar powder in a bowl.

Note: You can store this in air tight container and make laddoo’s whenever you want. Just add warm milk and make laddu’s.

 

Add little by little warm milk and mix ravva laddu mixture. Roll a small portion of ravva laddu mixture in your hand and try to make ravva laddu. If laddu is crumbling add little more milk.If you add too much milk, roast ravva in ghee and combine. There is a fix for everything.
